WHY DOES THE WTBS HOARD CASH
by Happy Guy :) inthey must have billions...annual revenue alone was almost a billion last year.
they must have close to 10 billion in assets and a large chunk of that is cash.
if the world is going to end any day that cash is useless.

I think you have got the Org all wrong..
I don't think I have the Org. all wrong at all. That much cash is ridiculous given they claim the world is going to end and given their constant criticisms of the world and all of it's ills. Yes other religions may have alot of cash but this one claims the world is going to end any day. It makes no sense to continue collecting contributions from their sheep who could live their last days more comfortably. It makes no sense unless they know it's a big lie.

Sorry guys,, but holding a large sum of cash is just smart.. Yeah I know they preach the end of the world, and they are gods chosen people, but they know better.. If they are truly gods chosen people then they don?t need the money, because like the Jew?s nothing bad will ever happen to them. But really, having money, and good credit is smart, and I cant fault any business for doing that.. I think you miss my point l3gion. Of course being cash rich is preferable if your a profit generating business. It allows you to weather downturns in the economy. It allows you to make coslty aquisitions like swallowing your competitor. It allows you to avoid issuing debt or diluting the holdings by selling off equity. Problem is we are not talking about a profit making corporation. We are talking about a publishing company who has been claiming that they are God's earthly organization announcing the end of the world. They likely have enough cash to continue, just as they are, distributing literature monthly for the next 30 years without having to ask their members for more cash. So why do they. Maybe it is smart business (or smart cult business) but it sure isn't the act of a religion who claims the world is about to end. In fact, for some who are not experienced with financial matters, holding too much cash can signal a major problem for business. It's true that being cash rich is good especially if you are a Bio-tech company which can spend millions upon millions of dollars over two decades developing a drug before it can go to market. Even most (if not all) Bio-techs don't hold enough to cover a 30 year burn rate. Holding too much cash means the corporation is not employing the money for growth as it should be. That is bad business and any CEO will tell you that. Growth is optimal and proper employment of cash resources is necessary for growth. Holding (what I estimate as) 30 years of cash burn is not only ridiculous, it's highly suspicious even in a normal profit generating business. To me, it proves conclusively that they are not willing to put their money where their prophecizing mouth is. To me, it's proof that they KNOW that their story is a big lie.

My understanding is that most, if not all, the individual Kindgdom Halls/ Congregations in Canada are also listed individually as a charity. This would be for legal and tax purposes.

(That's almost 1 billion per year! In USA alone!!)I just want to clarify this point for you Gerard and for others. Much of that reported Revenue for the N.Y. WT is cash that has been transferred from WT worldwide. Of the two countries outside of the U.S. that I have seen finacials for, it appears they are transferring the bulk of annual revenue to presumably WT in the U.S. In other words, I suspect that this 951 million U.S. denominated dollars is probably an aggregate of worldwide revenues.
They are producing approximately 23 million magazines twice monthly. If I were to assign an amount to estimate the cost of their mags at ten cents per copy (probably an extremely generous amount considering the volunteer labour), that's an expenditure of 2.3 million twice per month or 59.8 million annually. Add to that books, CDs etc of another 40.2 million. Now let's give the 3000 WT employees a $3000.00 (U.S.) per month income (which actually far exceeds what they are actually provided) and you add another 108 million. Now that's 208 million dollars in total. That leaves almost 750 million dollars left over for that year alone !!!!
My point is simple. They critisize the state of the world but apparently hoard massive cash but why? The world is supposed going to end any day now. It doesn't make any sense unless they know that the story of Armageddon soon approaching is a lie. If I were to guess, I would suggest that they hold at least 5 billion in cash or cash equivalents. That could be enough to fund WT for the next 30 years without taking in another single donation from anyone. Why not tell all the JWs worldwide "No more donations please, use the funds to take extra good care of your family and make yourselves comfortable as we wait for Armageddon." ???

I don't think he enjoys making people feel like "sheet". People seek him out for help. Many of these people have real problems which are destroying relationships, lives and children. Phil often has to be tough to get them to acknowledge thier harmful behavior. He is also very careful to only critisize the behavior and not the person i.e. a good person with bad habits - there is a difference. He has also gone far out of his way to help so many people and he has been doing this since long before he ever achieved celebrity status.

Well then I'll qualify that for you Fleaman and for others as well. My observations of the JW leadership is that they would rather pretend the problem does not exist or to massively downplay it for fear of public embarrassment. Further, they are extremely litigious and, it appears, would rather litigate excessively. In my opinion (and probably others as well) they are too stubborn to change their official policies. Like so many things in history, I believe it will be from pressure by the average honest JW like yourself and gdt (and others) who can motivate a change in policy. I am sure there are ex JWs who feel that the rank and file can't affect change because the WT is to stubborn and dictatorial but in most (but not all) cases leadership succumbs to the pressure from the masses.

Saying "hi" leads to love and leaving your wife...
by kitties_and_horses_oh_my! ini've been struggling so much with some old programming that i truly feel is from the witnesses, and my father in particular.
he always told me men and women couldn't be friends -- unless they were married or related -- because they'd fall in love with each other and leave their mates.
that's why you could only be friends with your own gender and were never allowed to be alone with someone of the opposite sex, even in a car.

Kittens, it's a good step forward to seek answers ot your insecurities and to try and deal with them. On the other hand, your husband is married to you for better or for worse. I suggest you discuss this matter with him openly and honestly. This will allow him an opportunity to help secure your trust and will also allow him an incite into your fears. If he can appreciate the depth of these fears then he will have an opportunity to put in the extra effort to not make you feel more insecure. This may help as long as he is not made to feel like he is "walking on eggshells" all the time.

Some of the court cases in the US and Canada seem to be providing evidence that most elders handle it as well as ordinary people are expected to
And some cases are providing evidence that elders are interrogating the youth about what happened (they are not qualified experts in this area), sometimes blaming the youth for being (unwilling) participants, and not reporting the matter to the authorities.
My 50 years in 'the truth' saw NOT ONE example of child abuse not handly via the police and courts (and that was just one matter anyway, albeit one too many).
I believe that herein lies the problem. According to the cases in the courts over the last few years, many, many instances of child sexual abuse are silenced by elders and the young impressionable youth are made to hold the secrets in for the good of Jehovah's organization which is why there are so many cases occuring with adults coming forward now that they are no longer intimidated. Many of these examples of abuse are being dealt with by the Police and the Court years after the fact and in some cases, here in North America, the statute of limitations is a legal issue. Clearly there are many cases that are not being handled via the Police and Court at a time when they could have been and it is coming out in cases that it is because of a large scale attitude of handling these cases as an internal matter for JWs. How many cases are silenced by elders where the congregation is not aware? We have an honest poster on this board who was aware of literally dozens within his one congregation.
As long as the average JW refuses to acknowledge there has been and may still be a problem with the JW methodolgy of handling these cases it will continue and more children will suffer.
